One of the best grouper sandwiches I have ever had! The service was not bad but it took a long time to get our food. View was spectacular, which might be why the food was a little pricey!

The shame of this place is they have an amazing venue that they could do so much with and it is just another place to get deep fried bar food. They have done nothing bad to us when we have dined there. Fish and chips, burgers, all OK like you would get about anywhere. Our servers have been super nice and friendly. This location screams out for better food and a theme. Variety of menu or an ethnic menu. Better cocktail specials. More Florida atmosphere. I am not saying that this is better or worse than Crackers, just another version of middle of the road. This place has the potential to be a hulabayclub.com but never lives up to its promise.

We had a little trouble finding the place as it sits in the middle of a multi building 70's motel. The place was dark (sunny day) and we asked to be seated outside but were told there were no seats except for the tiki bar area which was a short walk down a boardwalk. We found it being run by one person who was tending to bar patrons and ignoring us. We returned to the main building and got seated. The menu was nothing unusual but they had a special that was a Prime Rib Melt with fries. It was plenty of shaved meat with onions and cheese but not much taste. It had an air of nightime 20 something hangout in general. Service was less than ok but the food was fast. Won't go back, although it had a nice view overlooking the river.

Love the views, love the food, love the beer! Service was really good. They let our Chiwawa sit on the grass near our table with her little water bowl which was nice. Everything we ate was very tasty, and my family's selection ran the gambit. At the end of our meal every plate was empty! Our pitcher of beer was ice cold and fresh. We are looking forward to a return trip here soon. BTW the manager used to own The Margarita Grill in Homosassa, he is a great person and he and his son are both accomplished magicians. Tableside magic that the whole family will be amazed at.

This restaurant has recently been renamed Margarita Breeze and has a new menu. Food and drinks are wonderful.

I've been to many "Ale Houses" and this was a bit of a disappointment. My visit was a few eeks ago, so I don't think much has changed in that time. The food was OK, and the selection was good. When we arrived early on a Saturday evening, we were seated at a table that was located in the middle of a walkway between the dance floor, the kitchen, the entrance to the restaurant and the main dining room - in other words: we had traffic by our table from all directions for the entire time we were there. And, it was quite noisy. The overall appearance of the interior of the restaurant was that it was old and could use some serious updating. The food was reasonably good and the service was friendly and timely. Three of our party had fish which was fresh and prepared as they had hoped. I had beef tips which I had ordered as medium, but were slightly beyond that. I happened to be a rainy evening, so we could not enjoy the beautiful view of the waterfront, but from what I could see, it may not have mattered as the restaurant does not appear to be set up to take advantage of the location.

Doreen is a wicked good waitress. The fajitas are very tasty and seasoned perfectly. Chicken curry and coconut shrimp is to die for. Will be back. The outside seating is phenomenal. Can't get any better then this.

Very amazing outdoor seating but very fatty food. This place is good for tourist and they are really busy. However, service is hard to keep up with. Groupers bites and onion rings were good. Ask for extra plate if you are sharing food. Chicken tenders were better than its in other places.

  • Mal C.

Food took 32 minutes to arrive, with two tables in the whole restaurant. Gave extra star for food quality.

Wow! This place has so much potential! It just looks run down but great location. Paint peeling everywhere and carpet lifting. Smells funny. Out on the deck is nice due to view. Fish was overlooked and almost tasted frozen. Wait staff wasn't attentive and never even cleared plates from appetizers. If you just want a great view and a beer... Nice spot (even though there are lots of others). I won't be back.

Nice service and the food is to be expected of a sports bar restaurant. The check in offer does not apply to all beers, but only applies to the $1.50 Coors draft, so didn't end up redeeming it. Prices are cheap and it's a nice place to sit on the water for a drink after boating on the river.

  • Shelby R.

This place is set up right on the water and we were really looking forward to eating here. I ended up regretting my decision. The food was just ok, pretty much what I would expect from an ale house. The service was horrible. I wouldn't suggest going here if you're looking for a pleasant dinner.

What a wonderful place! Under new management and has only been open for about ten days! We went three times in our one week vacation! The food is good, the beer is cheap and the owner and his son were so gracious to bring our children not only balloons, but some really awesome magic tricks!!! They were truly so hospitable and the wait staff was incredibly friendly especially for all being new!! Great patio to watch the sunset! We recommended this place to everyone we talked to and will definitely be back!!!

Simple but good. Really nice to be there around sunset. People are nice. Relaxed. Had a Trio Sea Platter, that was so good!!

  • Deb G.

the worst ever, been there at least 5 time lately thinking it would get better, not happening . if you want to wait over an hour for just your appetizers, this is your place. If you are lucky and you get your food it is just average bar food at best. WILL NOT GO BACK .

  • Shaun B.

The food and location are good, that's about it. Service was slow. Waitress was clueless about the menu. Mixed up our drinks. Didn't honor the "check-in free draft beer". Waited until after I showed the coupon and brought out the check to tell me it was only valid for their "ale house brew"

  • Jake V.

If you want beer and halfway decent bar food with a great view, this is the place for you. If you're looking for top-notch food or service, look elsewhere. Views off the deck, especially at sunset, are fantastic. The beer list isn't bad, considering the location. But most of the foot likely came from a giant walk-in freezer -- it's fine, but it's not great. Likewise, the service seems to get overwhelmed easily, and while they're apologetic about it, it certainly detracts from the experience.

Service is a bit slow, portion size for fish & Chips is terribly small for the price. We got our appetizer after our meal.

We stayed at the Port Hotel and Marina. Our first night, we had cocktails and watched the most beautiful sunset over the water at the bar. We had five adults at dinner at the Ale House the next evening. Everyone loved their dishes. I had curry chicken. It was terrific and came with naan and basmati rice. Very authentic. Other dishes we tried; grouper rueben -huge portion of grouper and delish. Coconut shrimp is fantastic. Grouper bites are hearty and very good. In all 3 visits to the Ale House, service was spot on and friendly, cocktails were mixed well and food was very good to fantastic. We will be back.

My family and ate here during spring break 2015. The location couldn't be better, a dockside restaurant overlooking the river. During dinner, from the dock, we spotted manatee, several cranes, a stingray and fish all during sunset. It was a true treat. It's a shame that even such a fantastic view doesn't make up for a less than average meal. The food was okay but for a family of five this is a pricey adventure. For our $100 tab (which included no apps, 1 cocktail and 1 beer) the food should have been much better. For this price, I absolutely expect entrees not to be served with mediocre frozen veggies. The fish and chips was good, as was my grouper, the kids pasta we had was goopy - you would think for the prices they could swing the extra couple of cents per serving to by a decent brand of pasta. All of this would have been well enough, but honestly the service was awful. We waited for quite a long time for our order to be taken, the drinks took so long I contemplated meandering over to the bar, our server couldn't describe what types of fish they were serving, she brought be a full pint of beer when I asked for a taster, my salad came after my entree, and our three year old's pasta came out a full ten minutes after our other four plates. The final thing was having to track her down and pay the check. If I was traveling with just a spouse, or a few friends this would probably be a good place. For our family we would think hard about coming back for a return visit.

Had triggerfish, wonderful! Service was excellent. Wife had sea scallops, good also. Loved the fries, large size. Soup of the day, onion, very good. Will be back.

Terrible service, horrible food!!!! First time here, I would NEVER return. We waited at least 20 minutes to be seated (indoors since there were no spaces outside). Waited over 2 hours for a greasy, practically inedible meal. We watched EVERY table outside get served and leave before we even got our food. We saw the manager multiple times, but he ignored us... Other tables complained but he didn't care, so we kept our mouths shut since we knew they didn't care about our business. Don't get the Reuben... I still can taste the grease. Disgusting. Never again....

We had such a great meal! The portions are huge and the staff is really friendly and accommodating! I had the trio which was a pound each of clams in garlic butter, snow crab legs & large peel & eat shrimp. The atmosphere is casual & the only bummer is that it was too cold to sit on the waterfront deck. Awesome experience!

After 3 visits my one star rating is only for the location and view of the beautiful river. I cannot figure out why this establishment has not been closed down by the Citrus Health Department as Serv-Safe food handling procedures do not exist here. On top of this little issue the place is DIRTY and smells terrible. I bet their tap beer lines have not been cleaned and sanitized in years. This so called restaurant ruins bar food which is a tough task. Don't waste you time this place is not worth it.

Get a free beer (Ale House Gold) with check-in. Good beer selection and views. Grouper sandwich is good, as well as service. May be because we were the first ones in at noon for lunch on a Sunday. It opens at noon. For kids ... Chicken fingers and quesadillas were very good. Our kids ate them all. I finished a little of their leftovers and found it to be quite good for kids menu.

Wouldn't even recommend this "restaurant" to a stray dog. I walked in and was immediately taken aback by the dusty, dim lit establishment. The sign read "Please wait to be seated" so I did so...for a long time until I realized no one was coming to seat me. I got the servers attention finally and she walked us to a table. There was only one other table in the restaurant so I was confused as to why I had to take it upon myself to ask if we could sit down. Finally we are seated and she takes our drink order, I ordered a Jameson and ginger and my boyfriend ordered a vodka soda. The waitress rings it in and I suppose the bartender wasn't aware what "soda" meant and screamed over the bar to the waitress "what kind of soda does she want?" The waitress replied "he wants soda water." The bartender stopped and asked "the GIRL wants a Jameson and the GUY wants a vodka soda?!" My jaw dropped. I bit my tongue and waited for our drinks but took one look at my greasy finger printed glass, asked for the tab and walked out still hungry. I went there for dinner and I wouldn't even think of touching a food item off their menu. Disgusting, in every way possible.

Service was great, food was great (got steamed shrimp and indian chicken app), view and breeze was AMAZING! The view and water breeze alone was enough for this place. Good beers on draft, nothing overpriced.

Atmosphere: sit outside. Inside smells like a dirty mop bucket. Food: baskets of hot material substituting as food. Service: shitty. REALLY shitty. Their slogan should be, "The Ale House: Home of the Disappearing Waitress!" Go somewhere else. Burger King is just up the street.

I'm giving 5 stars (even though the ladies room was in bad shape) because the view from the tiki bar was amazing... and the female bartender out in the tiki bar was sweet as could be and made the best strawberry margarita ever. ever. (I don't really drink, have never enjoyed alcohol but this could change everything :))

From Ohio here visiting my grandmother hoping to find a local cool joint, ability to sit outside and of course good food. Pulling up to this place you will become skeptical but I promise that doesn't last long. The place is totally chill, right in the water...perfect for us out of towners who enjoy the warm weather!! I got a burger- super fresh ingredients- and onion rings- love the crispness and the batter. My hubby had the grouper Rueben, fried- he was in heaven, super delicious! A must try if you are in the area. I gave it 4 stars because it's hard for me ever to give the highest rating : )

Horrible food, horrible service, and left with a bad taste in my mouth. When we arrived the hostess was on her cell phone with an important conversation and the manager ignored us and continued to clean the menus then finally stopped and sat us it took them about ten minutes to acknowledge us. We should of just left then, but decided to stay. The food took over one hour for two people. I will never go back to this place to eat!

  • Steve S.

Service was excellent! We had our menus as soon as we sat down and the beverages came within 5 minutes. We were here for steak night - top sirloin for $10.99. There was also live entertainment! We will definitely make this a regular place. The Clam chowder was also very good. Highly recommend this place.

View is beautiful but food was terrible. The grouper Reuben had no flavor. Prices are high because of the view. Maybe drinks here wouldn't be bad, but would not eat here again. I wish the waterfront dining in the area was better quality.

We found this place thanks to yelp it is sort of hidden, The food has been good every time. The beer selection is limited but the service is always above average my wife and I usually sit at the bar with Leah she is a very friendly bartender and recognized us the second time we came. We will be back for sure.

Great gem on the Crystal River. We enjoyed an early dinner here after a day in Weeki Wachee. We had an outdoor table over looking the river. Typical bar food but large portions and tasty. The waiter was very accommodating for my 3 year old niece that wanted a shrimp kids meal (which wasn't on the menu). He came up with a creative combo of appetizer and fries for her. (And after all that she changed her mind). Watch for the squirrels who will beg for food and watching them is quite amusing.

One of the few restaurants in the county that offer a waterfront view. Had a delicious margarita and I always order the buffalo shrimp caesar salad, so good! Boyfriend likes the buffalo chicken wrap.

Eric is seriously the nicest waiter in America. Decent food, but ooohhhh, the service. He Came out with a taste of beer for my husband because he thought my husband might prefer it to what he ordered, which he did. Eric Sussed this out from like a two minute conversation about the beer menu. What a gem!!!

This place is tucked behind a hotel that looks like it might have a family (or ten) of cockroaches living in it. With that said, the Crystal River Ale House was not bad at all. We got an order of 20 wings, half teriyaki, half buffalo. We got mild buffalo and they were dry and very boring. So we ordered a side of the hot buffalo and dipped them instead. A bit too much tobasco and not enough flavor, but the wings themselves were very good so overall, no complaints. I wasn't a fan of the teriyaki though. I also got the Ale House burger which was quite good. Our waitress went above and beyond with her service. She was always ontop of our drinks and even comped my Uncle's beer because she put an orange in it thinking he'd like it, but he didn't. She was ontop of getting us all to-go boxes and covers for our sauces and even asked if we wanted to-go cups for our drinks (non-alcoholic). A+ for her. Overall, not a bad joint. $12.99 for 20 wings, and $8.99 for my burger which I think was decent in price (but I'm from RI, so maybe that's expensive down here). Oh and you can eat outside on the water if you like (we did), or you can eat inside in the air conditioning. Anyway, good food, good service.

Beautiful atmosphere but the service was horrible. Took more than 30mins to order an appetizer. Food was ok when we finally got it but nothing to brag about. I would NOT recommend this place

Awesome location, good food. Service is above average. Sitting on the terrace watching the wildlife including manatees in King's Bay is the real reason to eat here.

No way is this your traditional ale house... its a sports bar. Great views. Nice atmosphere. Food comes within 5 mins which is great but I had grilled fish and my wife had steak, so the food is pre cooked. Nice place more because of the views and atmosphere. Beer just average food average. Staff very pleasant and helpful.Service efficient

Meh....this place has not been reviewed since 09 so I figure it was long overdue for an update. We first walked in and there was a man at the bar at noon drinking a beer with his 4 yr old along side him. We are not from here, so we don't know if this the norm or not, but definitely made us do a double take. The food was not anything special. Pricing is fair to the type of food. We had the Philly Cheese Steak and the grouper sandwich for lunch. The cheesesteak sandy was pretty large, couldn't finish it all. Tasted better w/a few dabs of hot sauce. It came with a 3 bean salad, which was refreshing and had good flavor. We sat outside and enjoyed the views of the water and enjoy the breeze. Service was good; very attentive and pleasant. Overall, the deck is a nice place to hang. As far as the food, it's mostly fried seafood and their dinner menu looked better than lunch. Most likely won't be back for the food though.

Grouper nuggets were nice. Had the coconut shrimp. The sauce made the dish. Instead of tarter sauce you get a coconut milk based dip, very good. Everything else was just alright. The days veg was corn that was obviously from a can.
